LOCATION AND STAFFING :The company is located in New City, New York approximately thirty miles outside New York City proper and as such is readily accessible to research, transportation and communication centers. The area falls within Northeastern Americas famous "Golden Triangle" which houses most major industries of the United States. AMA currently occupies 8,500 square feet of modern laboratory and office space in a medium sized industrial complex. The laboratory employs a staff of thirteen from various disciplines such as Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacology, Cell Biology, Microbiology and Toxicology. The company on a consulting basis utilizes several Board Certified physicians. Their special areas of expertise include Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Psychology, Podiatry, Internal Medicine, Hematology, Dentistry, Pediatrics, Plastic Surgery and Gynecology. AFFILIATIONS :AMA is registered with and consequently inspected on a regular basis by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Agriculture (USDA) as well as the New York State Department of Health. The company and/or several of its employees maintain continuing memberships or relationships in good standing with International Society of Bioengineering and The Skin (ISBS), The Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC), American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), Personal Care Products Council (formerly CTFA), Dermal Clinical Evaluation Society (DCES), the New York Academy of Science and the American Public Health Association. EQUIPMENT AND CAPABILITIES : Several highly sophisticated dermal evaluation devices have been added to further extend the laboratory's capabilities into the area of human clinical evaluations. These include such computerized instruments as a Dermalab Evaporimeter to measure transepidermal water loss (TEWL); Dia-stron Rheometer for studying the rheological properties of the skin, hair, nails; Scopeman Remote Video Microscope used to conduct human comedogenicity, wrinkle reduction and skin blanching studies. A Skin Friction Tester is employed to evaluate "slip" and "drag" value while a Minolta Color Computer supports a visual analysis for tan accelerators and skin whitening products. The company is known for its ability to develop successful protocol in specialized areas, which in the past enveloped tan accelerators, in-vivo lip moisturization, in-vivo human eye irritation (Draize type model), UV stability of hair dyes, human anti-pruritic models via Esthesiometer measurements and skin firmness and elasticity via Cutometer to mention a few. Sebumeters, skin pH meters and electro conductivity measurements round out the current company profile for dermal evaluations. AMA maintains eight Solar Simulators and two Spectroradiometers for the purpose of conducting photo biological studies. The company has been involved in photo biological testing for over thirteen years and conducts both safety and efficacy tests for ultraviolet meditated dermal investigations. The laboratory is equipped with two-controlled temperature and humidity environmental chambers that have a combined forty-person capacity wherein antiperspirant/deodorant efficacy trials, sweat resistance, SPF tests and facial sting assays are performed. AMA has provided efficacy and claim substantiation for numerous companies in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Japan, Malaysia, South Africa, South America, Israel, Korea and Australia; and maintains partnership in Dermatest Pty Ltd. a testing facility in Sydney, Australia.
